Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines influenced by factors like team news and public perception, while this market’s odds are driven by actual money being wagered. If a significant amount of volume flows towards one outcome, the odds will shift to reflect that increased conviction. This can sometimes lead to prediction market odds being more accurate than sportsbook odds, especially as the event approaches and more information becomes available. It's a fascinating comparison of different forecasting methods.
On Predict, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell contracts representing each possible outcome. The price of each contract directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. As more traders participate and place bets, the prices adjust dynamically, providing a real-time assessment of the likelihood of each team scoring first. On Predict, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s efficiency depends on the number of participants and the information they bring to bear.
