Prediction market odds, like those found on Polymarket and Kalshi, often reflect a different kind of information than traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while prediction markets are driven by the collective forecasts of informed traders. This can lead to discrepancies, as prediction markets may more quickly incorporate new information or specialized knowledge. However, both types of odds aim to accurately represent the probability of an event. Comparing them can offer a more nuanced understanding of the potential outcome of this market and the EIU vs. Tennessee State game.
Prices on Polymarket and Kalshi can diverge due to several factors. Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform attracts a different pool of traders with varying expertise and risk tolerance. Additionally, the market design – including fees, margin requirements, and liquidity – can influence price discovery. For example, Polymarket currently favors Spread: Eastern Illinois (-10.5) at 100%, while Kalshi leans toward Tennessee St. wins. These differences highlight how distinct trading dynamics can lead to varying assessments of the same event. Volume also plays a role; lower volume markets are more susceptible to price fluctuations.
