Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market incorporates the diverse perspectives of many individual traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook has mispriced a probability, they can express that view by wagering on Polymarket, potentially driving the odds closer to what they perceive as the true likelihood. This dynamic can lead to more accurate predictions, though discrepancies can still occur due to differing risk appetites and information access.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome – in this case, which team will score first. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand; as more people bet on a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movements are driven by the collective intelligence of the traders on Polymarket, creating a dynamic and responsive market for predicting the first goalscorer in the Dundalk vs. Shamrock Rovers match.
This market resolves around Oct 30, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution will depend on official match data determining which team scored the first goal in the Dundalk vs. Shamrock Rovers match. The platform will verify the result against established sports data sources to ensure accuracy. Traders who correctly predicted the first scoring team will receive a payout based on the final market price at resolution, while those who bet on the incorrect outcome will forfeit their shares.
