This market assesses various scoring thresholds for the third quarter of a college football game between Duke and Virginia. Participants predict whether the combined points scored by both teams will exceed specific numerical values during that quarter.
The markets resolve based on the total points scored by both Duke and Virginia in the third quarter of their college football game scheduled for October 23, 2026. Each market corresponds to a different scoring threshold, ranging from 2.5 to 27.5 points. If the combined third-quarter points exceed the specified threshold for a given market, that market resolves to 'Yes'; otherwise, it resolves to 'No'. All markets exclusively consider points scored during the third quarter. If the game is postponed but commences within 48 hours of the original scheduled start time, the markets remain active and resolve according to the official result. If the game fails to start within this 48-hour window, all markets resolve to a fair price, ensuring equitable treatment for all participants regardless of the specific threshold they have bet on.
Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds due to varying information and incentives. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and ensure profit, while this market allows individuals to express their own beliefs about the likely outcome. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. Generally, prediction markets tend to be more accurate than traditional polls or expert opinions, but comparing them directly to sportsbook odds requires considering the different motivations of participants in each.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts. The price of a contract represents the probability of the event occurring. For example, a contract priced at 60 means it costs $60 to buy a contract that pays out $100 if the outcome matches the contract's condition. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders are constantly adjusting their bids and asks based on new information and their own analysis, creating a dynamic price discovery process. This leads to a market-determined probability reflecting collective belief.
This market resolves around Oct 24, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the total points scored in the 3rd quarter of the Duke vs Virginia game is verifiable from credible public reporting. The final score will be sourced from official game statistics, and the market will settle based on whether the total points exceed or fall below the predetermined threshold. Traders holding contracts on the correct side will receive a payout of $100 per contract, while those on the incorrect side will lose their investment.
Several factors could influence the price of this market. Any news regarding injuries to key players on either the Duke or Virginia teams would likely cause significant movement. Changes in weather conditions, particularly if they affect scoring, could also play a role. Furthermore, in-game performance during the first and second quarters, such as a dominant offensive showing by one team, could shift trader sentiment and impact the price. Finally, any late-breaking news or analysis regarding team strategies or matchups could also contribute to price fluctuations.
