Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, and can sometimes differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market is driven by the collective predictions of individual traders. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. Generally, prediction markets tend to be more accurate than traditional forecasts, though sportsbook odds provide a useful benchmark for comparison. Examining both can give you a more comprehensive view of potential outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. As more shares are purchased for a specific outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the perceived chance of that outcome occurring. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective intelligence of all participants trading on Polymarket.
