Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, representing their profit margin, while this market allows traders to directly assess the probability of an event. This can lead to discrepancies, as prediction markets aggregate the wisdom of the crowd and may identify mispricings that sportsbooks haven’t yet corrected. It’s common to see differences in implied probabilities between this market and sportsbook offerings, especially as new information emerges or public sentiment shifts.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief about whether Deportivo Toluca FC or CF Monterrey will score first. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts, providing a real-time assessment of the likelihood of each team scoring first. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket.
