Sportsbooks may incorporate factors like public perception or biases, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. As more information becomes available – such as team news or weather forecasts – the prediction market odds tend to converge towards a more accurate probability of each outcome. It's common to see discrepancies, especially early on, with this market potentially offering different value than traditional betting options.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing different exact score outcomes. The price of each share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders are incentivized to accurately assess the likelihood of each score, as profitable trades depend on correctly predicting the final result. The more traders who believe a particular score is likely, the higher the price of its corresponding shares will climb, and vice versa.
