Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of bettors, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish lines to balance their risk, while this market is driven purely by individuals predicting the outcome. Often, prediction markets can be more accurate than traditional polls or analysts, as traders have a financial incentive to be correct. Comparing the odds can reveal where the crowd believes there is value, and whether there’s a disconnect between public perception and the market’s assessment of the game.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people trade, the price fluctuates, reflecting the evolving consensus. Higher demand for shares in a particular outcome will drive up its price, indicating increased confidence in that result. This dynamic pricing ensures the market remains responsive to new information and insights.
