Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. This market, like others, can reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially incorporating information not fully captured by sportsbook algorithms. Sportsbooks typically set odds to maximize profit, factoring in a margin, while prediction markets aim to reflect the true probability of an event occurring. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information sources, risk assessments, or simply varying levels of public interest in the Davidson vs. St. Thomas game.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is determined entirely by supply and demand, reflecting the aggregated predictions of all participants. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market remains responsive to new information and changing sentiment.
