Generally, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance betting action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market allows traders to directly express their beliefs about the probability of each outcome. If a significant discrepancy exists, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by simultaneously betting on both platforms. However, it’s important to remember that prediction markets are forward-looking and can incorporate information faster than traditional markets.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell contracts representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome in the Curitiba tennis match. As more traders buy contracts for a specific outcome, the price of those contracts increases, reflecting a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a contract represents the probability of that outcome occurring, expressed as a percentage. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants.
