Often, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market represents the collective beliefs of traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamics of each venue. If significant differences emerge between this market and sportsbook lines, it could signal opportunities for arbitrage or indicate that one venue has a more accurate assessment of the likely outcome. It’s important to consider both when forming your own opinion.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each outcome. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, allowing traders to express their views and profit if their predictions are accurate. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date information and collective intelligence of the participants.
