Often, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks may incorporate factors like house edges and perceived public biases into their lines, while this market relies on the collective judgment of traders. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when there’s significant public information or disagreement about the likely outcome. Comparing the two can reveal where the market believes sportsbooks may be mispricing the event, offering potential value for informed traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing different exact scores. The price of each share reflects the market's current assessment of the probability of that score occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to reflect new information and changing sentiment. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market is constantly updating its prediction based on the collective intelligence of its participants, making it a valuable tool for forecasting the final result.
