Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of forecasters, which can differ from sportsbook odds influenced by factors like house biases and public perception. Sportsbooks may initially set odds to attract balanced betting, while this market allows traders to continuously adjust probabilities based on new information and analysis. It’s common to see discrepancies, particularly before significant events or when new information emerges. Examining these differences can offer insights into where the crowd believes the true probability lies for the first team to score in this match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in whether each team will score first. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price converges towards what the market collectively believes is the true probability. The current price indicates the perceived likelihood of each team taking the early lead, and changes dynamically with each trade made on the platform.
