Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of bettors, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market relies on individuals freely trading on their beliefs. It's common to see discrepancies between the two, especially before a significant amount of volume accumulates. Comparing the implied probabilities from both sources can help you identify potential value and make more informed decisions about where to place your bets.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing different exact scores. The price of each share reflects the market's current assessment of the probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust to reflect the changing consensus. The market's depth – the number of shares available at different price points – also provides insight into the level of conviction behind each possible result.
