Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect the collective wisdom of traders and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while this market aims to represent the true probability of an event occurring, as determined by participants. If a significant discrepancy exists between this market and sportsbook lines, it could indicate differing opinions on the likelihood of either Crystal Palace or Newcastle scoring first in the second half. It’s common to see prediction markets as more accurate forecasts, especially closer to the event.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in, for example, Crystal Palace scoring first, the price of those shares increases, and the implied probability rises. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price reflects the aggregated sentiment of all participants, creating a dynamic and real-time assessment of the potential for either team to find the back of the net first in the second half.

This market resolves around Oct 25, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the outcome will be determined by which team—Crystal Palace or Newcastle United—scores the first goal in the second half of the match. The result will be based on official match data and verified against credible public sources. The platform will then finalize the market, distributing payouts to those who correctly predicted the first scoring team in the second half.

Several factors could influence trading activity in this market. Late-breaking news regarding player injuries or suspensions for either Crystal Palace or Newcastle could significantly shift the odds. Tactical changes announced by either manager, or even weather conditions on match day, might also impact trader sentiment. Furthermore, any pre-match analysis suggesting a shift in form or a change in team strategy could lead to increased trading volume and price fluctuations. Unexpected events during the first half of the match could also influence expectations for the second half, driving movement in this market.
