Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market allows traders to freely express their beliefs about the likelihood of each outcome. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is undervaluing a particular team’s chances of scoring first, the odds on Polymarket will adjust accordingly, potentially offering a more accurate prediction of the event's outcome. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially as new information emerges.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more shares purchased for a particular team to score first, the higher the price of those shares will rise, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of the traders participating.

This market resolves around Oct 25, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the resolution will be based on which team, Crystal Palace or Newcastle United, scores the first goal in the first half of the match. The official match records will serve as the source for determining the winning outcome. Traders will be able to claim their winnings once the result is officially confirmed and reported.

Several factors could influence the price of this market before resolution. Any news regarding team injuries, particularly to key attacking players for either Crystal Palace or Newcastle United, would likely cause significant movement. Changes in team form, tactical adjustments announced by the managers, or even weather conditions on match day could also impact trader sentiment. Unexpected lineup announcements or pre-match analysis suggesting a shift in strategy could also cause the odds to fluctuate as traders adjust their predictions.
