Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. This is because prediction markets aggregate the wisdom of the crowd, allowing a broader range of information and perspectives to influence pricing. While sportsbooks typically set odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, this market reflects the collective beliefs of traders who are incentivized to make accurate predictions. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions, access to unique information, or simply the dynamics of supply and demand within the prediction market itself.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price indicates the collective prediction of all traders on Polymarket regarding who will win the Courmayeur tennis match. The total volume traded provides insight into the level of interest in this event.
