Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a more accurate assessment of probabilities than traditional sportsbook odds, as they aggregate the wisdom of the crowd. Sportsbooks may incorporate biases or seek to profit from public perception, whereas this market relies on individuals directly putting their capital behind their beliefs. However, discrepancies can occur due to differing levels of information, market efficiency, and the incentives of participants. It’s common to see initial differences, with prediction markets potentially converging towards a more refined probability as more information becomes available and trading volume increases.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or other prediction markets. The current trading volume indicates the level of interest and conviction surrounding this event.
