Frequently asked questions

Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, often proving more accurate than traditional sportsbook odds, particularly closer to the event. Sportsbooks incorporate a margin for profit, while this market allows traders to directly assess probabilities. However, initial sportsbook lines may differ significantly, especially before substantial trading volume occurs. It’s common to see convergence as the event approaches, with this market’s implied probabilities aligning with those offered by sportsbooks, though discrepancies can still arise due to differing information or risk assessments.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective prediction. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price indicates what percentage of the total payout a share of that outcome is worth, and is influenced by the volume of trading and the conviction of market participants. The market’s price is driven entirely by supply and demand.

This market resolves around Oct 31, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution will be based on which team scores the first goal in the Columbus Crew vs. D.C. United SC match. Any goals scored during regular play, stoppage time, or extra time will be considered, but penalty shootouts will not factor into the resolution. The result will be determined by official match data and verified against credible public sources.

Several factors could influence trading activity in this market. Late-breaking news regarding key player injuries or suspensions for either the Crew or D.C. United could significantly shift the odds. Changes in team form, tactical adjustments, or even weather conditions leading up to the match could also impact trader sentiment. Major news events relating to either team’s performance in recent games, or even pre-match analysis from respected soccer commentators, could all contribute to movement in this market before Oct 31, 2026.
