Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market allows traders to freely express their beliefs, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. However, as the event approaches, the odds on Polymarket tend to converge with sportsbook lines as more information becomes incorporated into the price.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different possible exact scores. The price of each share reflects the market's collective belief about the probability of that score occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe a particular outcome is likely, the higher the price of its corresponding shares will climb. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and changing sentiment.
