Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. Comparing the odds can highlight areas where the crowd disagrees with professional oddsmakers, offering potential value for informed bettors. These differences can be especially pronounced in niche sporting events.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing each possible exact score. The price of a share directly reflects the market’s implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more shares are traded, the price adjusts to reflect the changing sentiment of the participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe a specific score is likely, the higher the price of its corresponding shares will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective forecast.
