Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set their odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market aggregates the predictions of many individuals. As more information becomes available – such as starting pitchers, weather reports, or injury updates – both prediction market prices and sportsbook odds will adjust. However, prediction markets often become more accurate closer to the event, as they incorporate a wider range of perspectives and react quickly to new data. It’s common to see this market diverge from initial sportsbook offerings.
On Predict, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different outcomes. The price of each share reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Predict, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more shares purchased for a particular outcome, the higher its price rises, indicating increased confidence in that result. Conversely, selling shares drives the price down. This dynamic process creates a real-time assessment of probabilities based on the collective intelligence of the traders on Predict.
