Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to profit by balancing action on both sides, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is mispricing an outcome, the prediction market odds will likely move in the opposite direction. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying levels of market efficiency. It's common to see prediction markets outperform sportsbooks over time, especially for well-defined events.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous double auction. Traders buy and sell shares representing different outcomes of the China Open doubles match, and the price of these shares reflects the market's collective probability assessment. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust accordingly. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price movements are driven by supply and demand; if more people believe Mertens/Shnaider will win, the price of shares representing that outcome will increase, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing mechanism aims to provide a real-time estimate of the event’s likelihood.

Several signals could influence this market before resolution. Any news regarding player injuries, changes in playing conditions, or even updated rankings could shift trader sentiment. Strong performances by either team in preceding matches leading up to the China Open doubles match could also impact the odds.
