Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on expert analysis and incorporate a profit margin, while this market is driven by traders who are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. If a significant discrepancy exists between the two, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by betting on both the prediction market and a sportsbook. However, it’s important to note that sportsbook odds are influenced by factors like public betting patterns and risk management.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of Mertens/Shnaider winning. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher perceived chance of success. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring, allowing traders to express their views and profit if their predictions prove correct. The market’s price dynamically adjusts based on supply and demand.

Resolution will be based on the official result of the China Open doubles match between Mertens/Shnaider and Mihalikova/Nicholls as determined by tournament organizers. The winning pair will be identified, and that outcome will determine the settlement of shares on Polymarket. Several factors could influence the price of this market. Any news regarding player injuries or changes in team composition for either Mertens/Shnaider or Mihalikova/Nicholls would likely cause significant movement. Updates on their recent performance in other matches, weather conditions at the China Open, or even public sentiment expressed through social media could also impact trading activity. Unexpected upsets in other matches within the tournament might also shift expectations and affect the odds for this particular contest.
