Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, but may adjust less quickly to new information. This market, driven by traders on Polymarket, incorporates a wider range of perspectives and can potentially offer more accurate probabilities as new information emerges. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before the event begins, as the market digests news and adjusts expectations regarding the players' form and potential performance.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of Alexandrova/Stollar winning the China Open doubles match. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price fluctuates, reflecting the collective prediction. Higher demand for shares in a particular outcome drives up its price, while increased selling pressure lowers it. This dynamic process aims to converge on a probability that accurately represents the market's expectation.
