Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets, like Polymarket, allow traders to directly assess probabilities. This can lead to discrepancies, with this market sometimes displaying more accurate predictions, especially as more information becomes available and more traders participate. It’s common to see prediction markets react more quickly to news and developments impacting the event than traditional odds makers.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the prices adjust, providing a dynamic assessment of the event's potential results. The current price indicates what traders collectively believe is the chance of a specific player winning the China Open women's match.
