Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information sources, biases, or simply a different interpretation of the players' strengths. It’s common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information, potentially offering a more efficient assessment of the match’s likely result.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular player, the price increases, and the implied probability rises accordingly. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket, and reflects their collective assessment of the match’s potential result.

Any news regarding player injuries, changes in playing conditions, or updated match analysis from tennis experts could shift trader sentiment. Unexpected results in earlier rounds of the China Open, or a significant change in either player’s recent form, could also lead to price adjustments. Furthermore, large trades by influential market participants could create short-term volatility and impact the implied probabilities until the match begins and a clear winner emerges.
