Frequently asked questions

On Kalshi, the dashboard for the NFL spread market tracks the current price of contracts representing whether the Chicago team will cover the spread against Buffalo. You’ll find a price history chart showing how the market has fluctuated over time, as well as the 24-hour trading volume, currently at $91,460. Total volume for this market is $102,845. This allows traders to gauge market sentiment and identify potential trading opportunities based on the collective predictions of other participants.

Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect a more accurate forecast than traditional sportsbook odds, as they aggregate the knowledge and insights of a diverse group of traders. While sportsbooks set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, this market incorporates real-time information and adjusts rapidly to new developments. However, sportsbook odds are readily available and often provide a useful benchmark for comparison, though discrepancies can and do occur, especially as the event approaches. It’s worth noting that prediction markets often demonstrate greater accuracy in predicting long-shot outcomes.

On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing their beliefs about the outcome. The price of a contract reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price will move based on supply and demand; if more traders believe Chicago will cover the spread, the price of contracts representing that outcome will increase, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing mechanism creates a real-time assessment of the event's likelihood.

This market resolves around Oct 4, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the final point spread of the Chicago versus Buffalo game is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on the official result declared by the NFL, and will determine whether Chicago covered the spread as defined by the market contract. Traders holding contracts on the winning side will receive a payout, while those holding contracts on the losing side will forfeit their investment. The market’s outcome is determined by the official game result.

Several factors could significantly influence this market. Any news regarding key player injuries for either the Chicago or Buffalo teams would likely cause price fluctuations. Changes in coaching strategies or unexpected weather conditions could also impact the perceived probability of Chicago covering the spread. Furthermore, significant betting activity or large trades within Kalshi itself can create momentum and shift the market price. Public sentiment, as reflected in polls and expert analysis, may also play a role, though the market often acts as a more accurate predictor than these sources.
