Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market allows traders to freely adjust probabilities based on their own research and insights. If there's a significant discrepancy, it might indicate that the market believes a sportsbook has mispriced a particular outcome. It’s common to see prediction markets move more efficiently than sportsbooks, especially as new information becomes available leading up to the event.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different exact scores. The price of each share reflects the market's collective assessment of the probability of that score occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the prices adjust accordingly, creating a dynamic and responsive market. The total volume traded and the price fluctuations provide valuable signals about the perceived likelihood of each outcome.
