Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities. If sportsbook odds heavily favor one team, but this market shows a more even split, it suggests disagreement between the two. It’s important to compare and contrast to form your own informed opinion.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where participants buy and sell shares representing their belief in each possible outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and changing sentiment.
