Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market incorporates the collective predictions of many individuals. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamic nature of how opinions evolve. If there's a significant difference, it might indicate an opportunity for arbitrage, where traders can profit by exploiting the price difference between the two venues.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts accordingly, providing a dynamic assessment of the likelihood of either Cesena or Catanzaro scoring first. The current implied probabilities are shaped by the collective actions of traders on the platform.
