Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set odds based on their own models and risk assessment, while this market represents the aggregated beliefs of individuals willing to put their capital at risk. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially when public sentiment strongly diverges from the sportsbook’s initial assessment. Comparing the two can be a useful exercise for informed decision-making, but remember that each represents a distinct form of forecasting.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing different exact scores, and the price of each share reflects the market’s probability of that outcome occurring. As more shares are traded, the price adjusts to find an equilibrium point where buyers and sellers are willing to transact. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movement is driven by supply and demand, influenced by factors like team news, form, and public perception of the match. The current volume traded indicates the level of interest in this particular event.
