Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from sportsbook odds which are set by professional oddsmakers. Sportsbooks may incorporate factors like public betting percentages and risk management strategies, while this market relies on individuals forecasting the most likely outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information or interpretations of the teams' strengths and weaknesses. It’s common to see prediction markets react more quickly to new information than traditional sportsbooks, leading to odds adjustments.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular team scoring first, the price of those shares increases, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing reflects the evolving expectations of the crowd, creating a real-time assessment of the likelihood of each team taking the early lead.
