Often, prediction market odds reflect a different set of information and incentives than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while this market allows traders to directly assess probabilities. It's common to see differences emerge, especially as new information becomes available or public sentiment shifts. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on team statistics and expert analysis, this market can quickly incorporate insights from a wider range of participants, potentially leading to a more accurate forecast.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing different exact scores. The price of each share reflects the market's collective belief about the probability of that score occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the prices adjust to reflect the evolving consensus. The more shares purchased for a specific outcome, the higher its price will climb, indicating increased confidence in that result. This dynamic pricing ensures the market remains responsive to new data and insights.
