Prediction market odds and sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different participant bases and incentive structures. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and protect their margin, while prediction markets aggregate trader beliefs through continuous price discovery. This market aggregates real money from thousands of participants making independent forecasts about the championship outcome. Over time, prediction markets have demonstrated competitive accuracy against traditional sportsbooks, particularly when traders have strong information or when the event remains uncertain. Comparing both sources can reveal where consensus differs most sharply.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, this market uses an automated market maker model where traders buy and sell shares representing each team's probability of winning. The price of each share reflects the current implied odds—higher prices mean stronger market confidence in that outcome. As traders place orders, the price adjusts dynamically based on supply and demand. You can enter or exit positions at any time before resolution, and your profit or loss depends on the final price relative to your entry point. This continuous pricing mechanism ensures transparent, real-time odds throughout the tournament.
Key roster changes, player injuries, and team performance during the regular season leading up to the playoffs will significantly influence trader sentiment. Unexpected upsets or dominant performances by underdogs can shift odds rapidly as new information emerges. Coaching changes, trades, or strategic shifts may also alter perceptions of a team's championship prospects. Media narratives and expert analysis often trigger price movements as traders reassess probabilities. Additionally, head-to-head matchups and playoff bracket positioning closer to the tournament will provide concrete data that traders incorporate into their forecasts, potentially creating volatility in this market.
