Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by a small team of experts, while this market aggregates the views of many individuals. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially before significant events or when public opinion diverges from expert analysis. These differences can arise from varying information access, biases, or simply the collective intelligence of the prediction market participants. Examining both can provide a more comprehensive understanding of the likely outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of each share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective prediction of all participants. The current top outcome, as determined by traders, has a probability of 50.0%.
