Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at sportsbooks. Sportsbooks incorporate a ‘vig’ or commission into their odds, representing their profit margin. This market, driven by the collective wisdom of traders, aims to reflect the true probability of each outcome. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, this market dynamically adjusts as more information becomes available and more people trade. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions, information access, or risk assessments.
On Kalshi, this market is priced using a continuous double auction. Traders buy and sell contracts representing different outcomes in the Campbell vs Elon match, and the price of each contract reflects the market's current assessment of its probability. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of its corresponding contract will climb. Conversely, if sentiment shifts towards another outcome, its price will increase while the initially favored outcome's price decreases. This creates a dynamic and responsive pricing mechanism.
