Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially in events where public perception differs from expert opinion. Comparing the implied probabilities from both sources can reveal interesting insights into how the event is perceived by different groups.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing each possible exact score, and the price of each share reflects the market's current probability assessment of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price fluctuates based on supply and demand; if many traders believe a particular score is likely, they will buy shares, driving up the price. Conversely, if traders believe a score is unlikely, they will sell shares, lowering the price. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date information and collective intelligence.
