This market tracks which team will score the first touchdown in an upcoming college football game between California and SMU. It includes scenarios where either team scores first, or neither team scores a touchdown during the entire game, including overtime periods.
The market resolves based on which team scores the first touchdown in the California vs SMU college football game scheduled for October 24, 2026, with all types of touchdowns—including offensive, defensive, and special teams—counting toward the outcome. If the first touchdown occurs in overtime, it still counts for the respective team’s market. Should neither team score a touchdown at any point in the game, including overtime, the “No team” market resolves as the winner. Postponements that commence within 48 hours of the original start time do not affect resolution; the market closes and resolves based on the final official result. If the game fails to start within 48 hours of its scheduled time, the market resolves to a fair price. Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market incorporates a broader range of information and real-time adjustments based on traders' beliefs. It's common to see discrepancies, particularly as new information emerges or public sentiment shifts. Examining these differences can be valuable for identifying potential mispricings and informed betting opportunities, though it’s important to remember that both types of odds represent probabilities of an outcome.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing each possible outcome – in this case, California or SMU scoring the first touchdown. The price of each contract reflects the market’s collective probability assessment of that outcome. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust dynamically, providing a real-time indication of expectations. The closer we get to the event, the more the prices will likely converge as uncertainty decreases and the market reflects more accurate probabilities.
This market resolves around Oct 24, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the market will determine which team scored the first touchdown in the California vs SMU game. The result will be based on official game statistics and play-by-play data. It’s important to note that the resolution process relies on publicly available information to ensure a transparent and verifiable outcome, and any disputes will be handled according to Kalshi’s standard procedures.
Several factors could influence the price movement of this market. Any news regarding key player injuries for either California or SMU would likely have a significant impact. Changes in weather forecasts, particularly if they favor a specific team's offensive style, could also shift probabilities. Furthermore, updates on team strategies or coaching decisions, as well as public sentiment expressed through social media and sports news, can all contribute to price fluctuations. Unexpected developments during the game itself, even before a touchdown is scored, could also cause rapid adjustments in this market.
