Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on expert analysis and may adjust them based on betting action, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the larger number of participants contributing to the prediction market. It's common to see prediction markets offer more accurate probabilities, especially closer to the event, as they aggregate a wider range of perspectives than a single sportsbook.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the Cali doubles match. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher perceived probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share represents the probability of that outcome winning, minus a small platform fee. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and changing sentiment among traders.
