Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, often proving more accurate than traditional sportsbook odds, especially as an event approaches. While sportsbooks may initially set lines based on expert analysis and public perception, this market incorporates the collective insights of numerous traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information access, biases, or risk appetites. However, as more information becomes available and trading volume increases, the prediction market often converges towards a more accurate probability assessment of the match's outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The higher the demand for shares representing a particular outcome, the higher the price, and therefore the greater the implied probability. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective intelligence of all participants trading in the Cali doubles match.
