Frequently asked questions

Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a 'wisdom of the crowd' that can differ from traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, factoring in a profit margin. This market, however, allows individuals to express their own beliefs, potentially leading to odds that more accurately reflect the true probability of an event. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamic nature of a decentralized market where opinions are constantly updated as new information becomes available.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in whether Cagliari or Bologna will score first in the first half. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a 'Yes' share (Bologna scoring first) or a 'No' share (Cagliari scoring first) indicates the market's current assessment of that outcome’s likelihood. The market effectively aggregates the collective intelligence of its participants to arrive at a price.

This market resolves around Oct 24, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the outcome will be determined by which team, Cagliari or Bologna, scores the first goal during the first half of the match. The official match records will serve as the basis for verifying the result. The market will then settle based on that verified information, distributing payouts to those who correctly predicted the first team to score.

Several factors could influence this market before the match concludes. Late-breaking news regarding player injuries or suspensions for either Cagliari or Bologna would likely cause significant shifts in the odds. Changes in weather conditions, such as heavy rain or strong winds, could also impact the perceived likelihood of either team scoring. Additionally, any pre-match analysis from reputable sports analysts suggesting a tactical advantage for one team over the other could sway market sentiment and alter the price of shares in this market.
