Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from sportsbook odds due to varying levels of information and biases present in each. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market allows traders to freely adjust probabilities based on their own analysis. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. Examining these differences can offer insights into where the market believes sportsbooks may be mispricing the probability of various outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each exact score. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust, reflecting the collective forecast. The market’s liquidity, currently at a 24-hour volume of $2,123, influences how quickly prices respond to new information.
