Prediction market odds often differ from traditional sportsbook odds, reflecting the 'wisdom of the crowd' and potentially incorporating information not yet fully priced into sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set odds based on their own models and profit margins, while this market represents the collective belief of informed traders. If a significant discrepancy exists, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by betting on both the prediction market and a sportsbook. It’s common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information than sportsbooks, especially in response to breaking news or late-developing insights.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each exact score. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price movements are driven by supply and demand, with traders adjusting their positions based on new information and their own analysis of the match. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date predictions.
