Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, but may also incorporate a profit margin. This market, however, is driven by individuals trading based on their own research and beliefs, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities, especially as more information becomes available. It’s common to see discrepancies, with prediction markets sometimes offering more favorable odds than sportsbooks, depending on public perception and information flow.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the likelihood of either Bristol City or Wolverhampton Wanderers scoring first. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and isn't influenced by external factors or a central authority setting the odds.
