Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set their lines based on their own analysis and to balance action, while this market is driven by traders who are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. If there's a significant discrepancy, it may indicate that the market believes a different result is more likely than sportsbooks do, or that there's an informational advantage held by traders participating in this market. It’s important to compare and contrast to form your own informed opinion.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders believe a player will win, the price of shares representing that outcome increases, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective forecast of all participants, creating a probabilistic view of the match’s result. The current price indicates the market’s implied probability of each player winning.
