Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of participants, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market relies on the aggregated predictions of individuals trading on Polymarket. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially early in the market’s lifecycle, as prediction markets can incorporate information and insights not immediately reflected in sportsbook lines. These differences can present opportunities for informed traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price fluctuates based on supply and demand; increased buying pressure drives the price up, indicating growing confidence in that outcome, while increased selling pressure drives the price down. This dynamic pricing reflects the evolving expectations of traders.
