Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, which represents their profit margin. This can sometimes lead to discrepancies between implied probabilities and actual likelihoods. Prediction markets, like this one, aim to reflect the true collective wisdom of the crowd, as traders are incentivized to place bets that accurately represent their beliefs. Therefore, you may find that this market's odds differ from those offered by sportsbooks, potentially providing a more accurate assessment of the potential outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date information and collective intelligence of the participants. The current price reflects the aggregated assessment of all traders on Polymarket.
