Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of bettors, and can sometimes differ from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by professional oddsmakers, while this market is driven by individual traders expressing their beliefs. These differences can arise due to varying levels of information, biases, or simply different interpretations of the available data. It's common to see prediction markets incorporate information more quickly than sportsbooks, especially in response to breaking news or late-developing insights about the players involved.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous exchange where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a specific outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, reflecting growing confidence. Conversely, if traders sell shares, the price decreases. This dynamic pricing mechanism ensures that the market odds continuously adjust to reflect the latest information and collective sentiment.
