Prediction market odds often reflect a different set of information and incentives than traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds to ensure profitability, while prediction markets aim to represent the true probability of an event as determined by traders. This can lead to discrepancies, with prediction markets sometimes offering more accurate forecasts, especially when a large volume of traders participate. It’s common to see differences in probabilities, as sportsbooks may prioritize attracting bets on certain outcomes, whereas this market focuses on aggregating informed opinions.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a growing consensus. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price discovery process relies on the collective intelligence of participants, making it a dynamic representation of expectations regarding the Djere vs Butvilas match. This differs from fixed-odds betting where probabilities are set in advance.
